What Happened:
On January 12, 2010 at approximately 4:53 pm, Haiti, considered to be the most deprived country in the Western Hemisphere, was hit by a 7.0 earthquake. The center of the earthquake struck about 16 miles (9.6 kilometers) from their capitol Port-au-Prince. An estimated 230,000 people died, 250,000 people were injured, and over 3 million people were left homeless, all in a nation of only 9 million.
